7forseven_key-and-arrowLet’s face it // Mondays stink. Or at least we typically expect them to stink. That is why, every Monday, I post seven positives from the previous seven days of the week as a reminder of what I have so that the week starts out on an upswing. There is much truth in the belief that happy people attract good things, so it is important to start the week out right. Sometimes it’s the more grand, but other times, it’s the simple things.

1. Pep-Rally. I always enjoy spectating my students in their element. Although, fortunately, many of them excel in the classroom, they excel in so many other areas as well. I loved watching them cheer, dance, sing, and play their instruments all in the name of school spirit and camaraderie. I too often forget how talented these kids are and that their interests are far and wide, so watching their pep-rally’s, performances, and games are always kind reminders.


2. Valentine’s Dance. Speaking of watching students in their element — there is not a much better pre-teen/early-teen places to watch them at their best (and most awkward — which I think is also their best). It might be sad how much I look forward to spending one Friday night a year chaperoning the middle school Valentine’s Dance. Their uninhibited dance competition falls into my top ten favorite moments of this year (yes, I suppose, it’s only February). It.Was.Amazing.


3. Boyfriend-Nurse.  When the school nurse makes an announcement at a faculty meeting about the crazy amount of sickness going around our school, you hope that it becomes socially acceptable to walk around in a hazmat suit. Or — you just get sick, too — like I did. And then give it to my boyfriend. Although men tend to be the whinier of the two sexes when sick, mine is a true trooper, and he proved to be just as nurturing as I am (if not more). He brought over aaaaall the remedies, and took care of me like the true gentleman (sick gentleman) he is.

4. Exercise the Sick Out.  Even though we probably shouldn’t have overdone it, my boyfriend and I took advantage of feeling better on Sunday and decided to get into a better routine of taking care of ourselves. I took him through a yoga class with the new yoga mat I gave him (early – oops!) for Valentine’s Day, and then we went on a walk around the lake in the nice weather.

Don’t worry… We did NOT buy these.

5. Thrift-Shop.  After our weekend workout, Patrick and headed out to a nearby small town and did some thrift-shopping. Not only is it fun to do with someone as quirky and fun-loving as him, but it makes it all the more great when he brings all the knowledge that a person who has worked in that business can bring (Is there anything he hasn’t done!?). Nope. The answer is nope.

6. Short and Sweet.  I’m keeping this post at Five for 7 because I am busy busy busy preparing for a presentation I am giving this Thursday for my district, but I can’t wait to come back next week and give you more!

 

7. Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy and celebrate with those you love! Even if you hate this holiday because it seems it manifested from a Greeting Card and feeds over-commercialization, we could all stand to celebrate love a little more in these divisive times. Hug someone. Love each other more.

  1. I think you’re doing this wrong. You’re focusing on Mondays, a day which you obviously don’t like. Take Mondays off. Schedule them as your day of rest.
